My name is Elaine—Lainey to my friends and colleagues—and I’ve been a Support Coordinator with Dream Big Disability for the past two years.
Four years ago, I made the decision to step away from my full-time role as a Team Leader—a position I truly loved. I felt I had given my time, energy, and dedication to the amazing staff I supported, and it was a role that shaped a big part of who I am today. But I knew in my heart it was time for a change. I wanted to reconnect with the work that first inspired me—supporting people directly—so I returned to working as an independent support worker and also stepped into the role of a Support Coordinator.
Over the past two years, I’ve also had the privilege of watching individuals thrive—developing skills, building confidence, and reaching their goals. Joining Dream Big was a turning point. I started out slowly, taking the time to find my feet and really understand how best to support my participants. One of the things I value most about working with Dream Big is the flexibility. Being able to work at my own pace and in my own time has made a huge difference to my work-life balance and overall wellbeing.
Kim, I want to say a heartfelt thank you. You’ve been such a great support to me. You’ve kept things real, been honest and approachable, and always there when I’ve needed you. That kind of support doesn’t go unnoticed, and I truly appreciate it.
Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. And I’m so grateful to be part of a team that truly cares and is passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives.
